Expo Pink Retrospective

‘Pink Retrospective’ offers a concise artistic and historical retrospective of the LGBTQIA+ community* in Venlo, focusing on the 1980s when the Pride movement in the Netherlands took its first steps. The exhibition includes the preserved covers of the Pink People newspaper, an iconic ‘gay’ newspaper from that time, which are presented in the windows of House of Confetti. In addition, the exhibition includes a unique visual installation by animator Jessie Joosten, based on archive material from the same period in Limburg. Visitors can also listen to spoken stories from the Pink People newspaper via cassette recorders, bringing history to life in a unique way. This is supplemented with some stories from people from the current community. In this way we connect the past with the present and create a deeper understanding across generations. The audio recordings were made by Luis Gohmann.

This exhibition shows a small part of the rich history. We see it as a start towards building a more extensive archive. In this way we create more understanding and involvement in our diverse society.

The opening event will take place on September 20 2024 from 16:30 till 20:00. The exhibition will run until February 22 2025 and can be admired every Friday and Saturday.

‘Pink Retrospective’ is co-created by project coordinator Pauline Schreurs and made possible by Venlo Kleurt and COC Limburg city group Venlo.
